In this three hour workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore the Medicine Wheel Tool to orient yourself to this multi-purpose tool and to develop sufficient knowledge to initiate your work with this tool.
A key component of the Genuine Contact program is the Medicine Wheel Tool©. This tool is based on the medicine wheel used by indigenous peoples around the world and given for use in the world by all races by a group of native elders in 1987. Native peoples around the world had preserved the knowledge of the medicine wheel as a way of understanding life from the beginning of time. As the story goes, the ‘red race’ was given this responsibility by the Creator until the time was right to share the tool with the other races for the benefit of the whole human race. Evidence of what is known as the Medicine Wheel is found in even the oldest cave art, depicting a circle divided into four quadrants seeming to represent north, south, east and west.
The wheel was originally adapted as a reflection tool in organizations for use at the end of an Open Space Technology meeting in 1992 by Harrison Owen, creator of Open Space Technology. He stayed true to the original four archetypes represented in the four directions, but applied organizational attributes: leadership (north), vision (east), community (south), and management (west). Birgitt Williams of Dalar International Consultancy, Inc then applied it as a diagnosis tool and then a tool for sustaining optimal organizational performance. Her initial research and work was based on the four organizational components identified by Harrison Owen. She and her friend Larry Peterson had an article of their findings published in 1997 by Berrett-Koehler in the journal At Work: Stories of Tomorrow’s Workplace. Birgitt continued her research with this adapted Medicine Wheel for use in organizations and discovered that it did not provide sufficient components for an analysis of the whole. She also found that the order in which the components were explored was critical in achieving sustainable results. She thus created the process for using the medicine wheel, the Medicine Wheel Tool©.

Birgitt brings her unique skills in assisting people to access their full intelligence. Ward Williams‘ coaching and consulting work is informed by his education, his life experiences including being a father to four children and stepfather to four, and his previous work experience as a financial advisor to businesses and families in the insurance industry and in private business specializing in new technologies. Ward developed his skills of working with individuals and organizations in both coaching and consulting capacities dealing not only with their finances but also their life goals and in how to develop strategies that would successfully accomplish those goals through thousands of interviews conducted over 34 years working with individuals, families and business owners developing their financial, retirement and estate planning as well as working with businesses in developing their employee benefit programs, both qualified and non-qualified.
