Most of us learn what we are available for by watching the people around us β family, culture, workplace β rather than by choosing it deliberately. That leaves many people finding their boundaries only after one has already been crossed: a yes given when the answer was no, a limit that did not hold when it was tested.
Personal Boundaries…At Work treats boundaries as a skill, not a fixed trait β something that can be noticed, developed, and strengthened through practice. This self-paced module gives you a framework for identifying your own boundaries, communicating them clearly, and holding them with confidence, then extends that clarity into your team or organization. Read more about what this module covers.
What You Will Learn
By the end of this self-study program, you will be able to:
- Describe what personal boundaries are and are not, and distinguish a genuine boundary from a preference.
- Notice and name your own current boundaries across the different areas of your life, recognizing where they are too rigid, too permissive, or well calibrated.
- Clarify the healthy boundaries you want to hold, tailoring them to the situation and the relationship rather than applying one standard to everyone.
- Communicate a boundary clearly and respectfully at each of the moments when it matters most β at the outset, when it is being approached, and once it has been crossed.
- Enforce a boundary with confidence when it is crossed, using a steady process that carries the situation through to genuine resolution.
- Sustain healthy boundaries over time through regular reflection, adjusting them as you grow and as your circumstances change.
- Apply your boundary practice to the workplace by clarifying your job description, your interpersonal boundaries with colleagues, and the balance between your work and home life.
- Recognize why individual clarity about boundaries is essential to effective teamwork, and support boundary conversations within a team or organization you lead or work with, even when the topic feels uncomfortable to raise.
Who This Serves
Executives, facilitators, consultants, managers, team leaders, and HR and OD professionals bring different roles to this module, but the same starting point: wanting a clearer, more deliberate relationship with their own boundaries. It also serves anyone navigating boundary challenges in a team setting, whether or not they hold a formal leadership title. No prior experience with boundary work or the Genuine Contact Way is needed. What matters most is a willingness to look closely at where your boundaries currently sit, and an interest in bringing that clarity into your working relationships.
